Geology Summary

Stratiform polymetallic Pb-Zn-Cu-fluorite mineralization within the Lower Devonian Gamskofel Limestone, linked to contact zones with gypsum-bearing Werfen formations. Arsenic-rich fahlore, chalcopyrite, galena, and sphalerite are the principal ore minerals. Several Bleiberg-style/MVT lead-zinc deposits throughout the Drauzug-Gurktal Nappe System.

Historical Production

First mining records date to the 16th century, continuing through the late 19th century. Hundreds of meters of tunnels at the Altfinkenstein and Neufinkenstein mines. Bleiberg-type mineralization suggests potential for large-tonnage base metal systems.
